Every Body is the Same

As time passes, social media will become much more complex. It has created a lifestyle for any human being that uses technology. In some cases, the media has become

essential to daily activities. Social media platforms have created images, thoughts and dreams that are closer to a fantasy than real life possibilities. It has gotten so out of control, that anybody can post anything with barely any regulations. Whether someone is female or male, they can and will be affected by social media in some shape or form.

The concept of social media has progressed from using it to keep in contact with others to making people want to live up to its expectations. Paige Smith states that once long ago, it was used for the most part as a platform to share memories or contact friends and family (par 1.) These applications and websites are giving off information that isn’t always beneficial to the men and women in today’s society. Both male and female influencers seem to fit into a certain image. This causes their followers to compare their own lives and bodies to the things posted on social media accounts.

Over the past 5 years, the #bodypositivity has been spreading like wildfire.

Currently, this hashtag is a growing social media trend that promotes and accepts all body shapes.(NewsRx) News Rx did a study in 2019 on body positivity content off of Instagram. Results were shown on Instagram, that the body images that were representing may body

shapes(par.3) The purpose of this trend is to allow everyone to stay positive on social media. The hashtag of body positivity can be found on multiple social media platforms.Instagram created messages that included positive messages to allow every body shape to feel appreciated.

#Bodypositivity was created after people thought they needed to meet certain standards in order to look “perfect.”  After reading  Why #bodypositivity is Important to Everyone, the hashtag and it’s background was explained more. Society has caused many people wanting validation from others rather than thinking good about themselves. Both men and women are affected by the body shaming on social media platforms. Kilgo says “women are expected to be shorter than men, have symmetrical curves, long legs and an hourglass waist, and men are expected to be taller than women and have toned muscles (par 1.) When #bodypositivity became more popular, people stopped trying to exceed all these expectations so hard. Social media applications are used more for identifying people’s flaws rather than allowing everyone to feel good about themselves.

In today’s society people are looking at influencer’s bodies and lives and thinking they are ideal. Too many people within society are skipping meals and spending way too much time working out. (Kilgo, par1) It is important that more people start using #bodypositivity to enhance their own bodies and start to feel more comfortable within today’s society. Kilgo asks “what if everyone learned to love the body they were given rather than picking them apart.” (par 1.)

As a teenage girl, I think #bodypositivity should be used on every picture or video posted on social media. It should be more known than it currently is. This hashtag has the potential to help people with body image issues feel more comfortable on social media platforms. The hashtag itself would draw more positive attention to the media. Once it is viewed by multiple people, it is more likely to start spreading on every single platform of social media. As #bodypositivty grows, so will men and women who struggle with the looks of their bodies on a daily basis. If they acknowledge that other people are going through the same thing, then they might want to change their lifestyle and try to maintain thinking of their body image in a more positive way.

It is important for everyone to stay positive about themselves for their day to day life. #bodypositivity should become known and used in everybody’s lives. That being said, the society norms in today’s culture needs to be altered. When  people post their bodies on social media, they hope to see positive comments towards it especially after using the #bodypositivity. Men and women think of the comments and likes of the post as validation(Kaler, par.1) If the feedback on social media is positive, it gives the feeling that they have exceeded the expectations of others. The thought of always caring about what others think about you is embedded in men and women’s heads. The social media just makes it worse(Kaler, par.2)

#Bodypositivty is currently being used to influence both men and women. It has taught people to accept who they are and the body shape they were given. Social media is improving when it comes to this matter. The use of it is turning positive and has people supporting others for a purpose(Smith,par.8) If people are feeling supported by this hashtag it can be spread through many different social media platforms and applications. #Bodypositivity can influence people’s beliefs

and thoughts on today’s cultures. Their beliefs in themselves and others should be impacted by the hashtag and positive energy.

In today’s society social media is one of the biggest influences on people and their body images. A positive hashtag can impact both men and women in many ways. Body image can be a big confidence factor or a negative one. Multiple social media platforms can enforce a positive message and use it to it’s advantage when it comes to the attention it brings. #Bodypositivity

should influence people to feel better about themselves and want to benefit others as well. It should continue to promote positivity as social media platforms evolve.
